Bread and Pineapple

Bread made by Dad and our home grown pineapple.
Not great eaten together!
Actually the pineapple was cut as a decoration because it is so tiny.

Afternoons with the Birds

Most afternoons we sit outside and listen to the birds (parrots) feeding.
This bird was silent as the sun went down.

New Growth in Summer

Even in this QLD hot summer some things are managing to grow,
like the Mulberry Tree above, Rosella bush below...
the sunflowers that we planted from seed.

Clearing the Mass of Gardens

One more garden cleared of weeds (most weeds) and debris.
This garden took quite a few days but no hidden surprises thankfully,
well only the jumping ants.

Homemade Letterbox Sign

Our letterbox rusted away last week.
It has been lying on the ground waiting to be sent to the mailbox graveyard.
Today we went to the tip shop and got ourselves the timber post and metal pole,
then we went to Bunnings and found a letterbox reduced by %75
(I don't know why they are so expensive!)
We had the bracket and board and paint, but needed to buy a white permanent marker
and the little clip thingies that hold the sign on,
which means I can change the sign whenever I get bored with it.
I sketched the house and then painted it on the board. It is much better than the
letters, which were done freehand and are all odd sizes (cringe),
but it will be fine until I get another idea.
Perhaps some greenery planted underneath?
P made the concrete for the post, cut the pole,
screwed all the bits and pieces together so they work well
and followed all my instructions nicely.
He does come in handy.

In Bloom

New Blooms in the garden.

A Resident Kingfisher

We believe we have a Kingfisher living in a termites nest in our tree.
He comes out and visits the garden and pond, but doesn't like close company
(hence the blurry zoom in photos).
How beautiful he is.

Spray Painted Kitchen Cabinets

This is what we are up to at the moment.
P has made the cabinet door and drawer fronts from scratch,
then they were spray painted (with ecofriendly paint) at the back shed,
layer after layer and sanded again and again (supervised by a snake)
and now they are getting put in, complete with push to open hinges, so no handles.
More photos when complete, but looking good so far.
Much cheaper and a good when you like to DIY.

Wonderful Watermelons

We have been enjoying our home grown, organic watermelons.
They are jucy and sweet, quite perfect.
We have two varieties, the first being a very light pinkish in colour, but ever so sweet.
The second has a darker green skin and darker red flesh, with plenty of juice.
We have eaten them, juiced them and perhaps will we try BBQ melon next.
I waited until the first tendril attached to the melon was dead
and then picked them, which seems to have worked well.

What is in the Garden Now?

Cucumbers are producing well and we are getting a few every day or so.
The snap dragons and nasturtiums are providing shade for a new bean seedling.
We are building a fence/garden to grow sunflowers and other pretty things along and
attract beneficial insects to our veg garden.
The roses are liking the orchard.

Mr P built a bridge for the wandering passionfruit vines,
we are hoping next year,we can walk through the tunnel
and the passionfruit will all be hanging down for collection!
